Venice, a city built on stilts, the original rialto where trade in silks, spice and grains led the medieval world….
I am very excited to be co-leading this very special tour for Gilliatt+Gibbins with my good friend and eminent Light & Land Leader; Terry Gibbins.
In all honesty, this exquisite city needs no introduction. It is one of the world’s most photogenic locations…no wonder photographers from all over the globe flock here, tirelessly trying to capture the pure essence of La Serenissima…
There are no shortage of companies leading all manor of photography tours and workshops to Venice but, to our knowledge…we are the only one who lead tours specifically aimed at guests who would like to explore the city at night.
There is no doubt that the opportunities for image making is endless here…at all times of the day, no matter the season. But, in the winter months, when the sun dips in the sky, the city becomes a magical playground for anyone who enjoys the mood and atmosphere that only night photography yields.
Of course, there’s little chance that we will simply ignore the daylight hours…are we going to miss the odd sunrise...I don’t think so! And if we’re lucky enough to see this beautiful location enveloped in fog...sleep can wait for those that have the stamina to carry on shooting.
We have designed an itinerary that encapsulates the best of Venice both during the day and of course, during the night. Unlike our famous ‘all-nighters’, we have created a schedule that has a nice balance between the hours we spend making images at night and also in the daytime, so we can appreciate the beauty of Venice in all her guises. Some well earned ‘down-time is factored in too, to do with as you will….
Our hotel is perfectly situated in the sestiereof San Marco, within easy reach of the Grand Canal, San Marco Basilica, Piazza San Marco and Campanile di San Marco…to name but a few.. Venice is awash with little secrets, around every corner a myriad of canals and alleyways await and the best way to discover these is on foot as well as the popular water bus and taxi.
All of our workshops and tours are suitable for complete beginners right through to seasoned professionals. We advise Digital or Film equipment to be the most suitable medium for our night photography workshops. Feel free to contact us if you have any queries regarding kit.
We anticipate a lot of walking on this tour so a moderate level of fitness is advisable.
